This residence, inspired by Mexican architecture and the vision of Luis Barragán, interweaves indoor and outdoor spaces in a harmonious symphony of color, craftsmanship, and cultural roots. The proposal emphasizes the symbolic value of ornamentation as an essential part of the architectural narrative.
The orientation of the house allows sunlight to enter only in the afternoon in the main living room, when its intensity is lower and gently filtered through the foliage of the trees in the backyard.
At the center of the living room is a cantilevered staircase inspired by the design of Barragán’s house-museum. The railing, incorporated for practical reasons, was crafted by a local artisan using a technique popular in the 1950s, in which rope braces serve an aesthetic, rather than structural, function.
Beneath the staircase, a wooden horse completes the scene, reinforcing the homage to Barragán. This piece connects with his main aesthetic obsessions and serves as an altar or symbolic stage dedicated to his legacy.
